Gregory Alan Johnson
January 3, 1974 - February 11, 2021

Gregory Alan Johnson was born January 3, 1974 to the late Alan (Alley) Thomas of West Chester and Cheryl Johnson of Kennett Square. Greg spent his early years living on South Street in Kennett Square with his mother Cheryl, sister Alicia and grandparents John H. and Janet Johnson.

Greg received his education from Kennett High School where he graduated in 1992. He was active in sports playing basketball and soccer. He was very fond of his high school coach Ed Holcroft and teacher Tim Skiles, and said their inspiration motivated him to coach. Greg had many friends, but spent most of his time with close friends Allen Butcher, Ron Brison, Frank Claudio and Maurice Reyes.

After high school, Greg was blessed with a daughter Aijah. He then married LaKenya Brown and was blessed with two daughters Kira and Vanessa. He purchased a home in West Grove where he lived with his family, until their move to Colorado. Greg was a devoted father; his daughters were the love of his life; it was that love which led him to coaching.

Greg coached for Westminster AFC, Colorado Storm North, Colorado Rapids Academy, and First Touch Academy Soccer Clubs. His teams earned multiple championships on the elite level for girls and boys across the western United States in addition to parts of the east and south coast. Greg and his soccer teams were well known across Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Texas, Virginia and Florida. He especially loved his Thundercats Elite Girls Team who won a multitude of championships; their team was ranked within the top 10 nationally for youth girls’ soccer and played at the Disney ESPN Worldwide of Sports Complex. Greg also volunteered for numerous soccer skills clinics for youth of all ages and levels, and was instrumental in helping many young people with the love of soccer and earning scholarships to colleges and universities. Greg coached until he became ill. He had to leave coaching, and Colorado, but his heart and reputation remained.

Greg was an extremely hard working man; he was employed by the Pesce Lab Company in Kennett Square where he learned the art of glass blowing. That skill gave him the opportunity to move to Colorado to work for the Allen Scientific Company, where he worked for 20 years, until the onset of his illness. He moved and was then employed by Prism Research Glass in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was greatly admired by his employer and co-workers.

Greg attended Bethel AME Church, Kennett Square as a child and later accepted Christ while living in Colorado. He loved boxing, basketball, gaming, outdoor sporting and volunteering for his community. He was well known for his keen sense of humor and quick wit; he had a way of making everyone laugh. Greg loved, and was well loved by his family and friends, spending most of his time with his daughters, and his dog Mocha. He spoke to his sister Alicia daily and stayed close to family as well as many high school friends.

Greg leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Cheryl Johnson, and stepfather William (Bull) Brown of Parkesburg, PA; his former wife, LaKenya Johnson of Denver, Colorado. Three daughters, Aijah Hickey of West Grove, PA, Kira Johnson of Denver Colorado, and Vanessa Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina.

His siblings, Alicia Beulah, Khori Johnson, Kapri Johnson, William (Bill Bill) Johnson, Kathy Thomas, Angela Thomas, Mary Thomas, Kendra Pernsley, Billy Hill, and Dwayne Paskings.
